Illusion of Chaos [Misprint] #RA02-EN020 collector guide

About Illusion of Chaos

Illusion of Chaos is a Ritual Monster, summoned with its Ritual Spell and Tributes, printed as RA02-EN020 in 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II (2024). It is a Level 7 DARK Spellcaster monster with 2,100 ATK and 2,500 DEF. 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II followed in 2024 with another list of tournament staples, again with every card in several rarities. Ungraded, this printing ranks 2nd of the 564 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II cards we track, one of the chase cards of the set. The top card is Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon at €98.17.

Character and collecting appeal

Spellcasters have been popular since Dark Magician, and the Type has some of the most sought-after artwork in the game. In play, it is a card for negating cards and effects, searching the Deck and Special Summoning. It has a Quick Effect, so it can also be used during the opponent's turn. Its once-per-turn limits are typical of modern card design. Its text names Dark Magician, so collectors often look for them together.

Version and identification

Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read RA02-EN020. RA02-EN020 is the English printing. Other languages use their own letters in place of EN, such as DE or FR, and are priced separately. This is a misprint, priced separately from correctly printed copies. Make sure the listing photos show the error. 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II has 7 other printings of Illusion of Chaos: RA02-EN020 Collector's Rare (€3.66), RA02-EN020 Platinum Secret Rare (€2.35), RA02-EN020 Quarter Century Secret Rare (€15.31), RA02-EN020 Secret Rare (€1.17), RA02-EN020 Super Rare (€1.24) and RA02-EN020 Ultimate Rare (€1.24), and more. Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly.

Investment potential

Against it: large modern print runs, which tend to cap prices unless a card becomes iconic; thin trading, so selling quickly can mean accepting a lower price. Past prices do not guarantee future ones. This is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €75.79 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less. Ask the seller to show the code RA02-EN020 clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. At this price fakes are worth checking for: genuine cards have a small holographic seal (the Eye of Anubis) in the bottom-right corner, and the font, colours and card back should match a copy you know is genuine. Look up the certificate number of any graded copy on the grading company's website. Modern foils can be scratched or curled straight from the pack, so check the surface under a light if you plan to grade.
