Character and collecting appeal

Spellcasters have been popular since Dark Magician, and the Type has some of the most sought-after artwork in the game. Its effect centres on sending cards to the Graveyard. It has a Quick Effect, so it can also be used during the opponent's turn.

Version and identification

Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read RA02-EN006. RA02-EN006 is the English printing. Other languages use their own letters in place of EN, such as DE or FR, and are priced separately. It is the Ultra Rare version. Ultra Rares have a gold-foil name and holographic artwork. This is an alternate artwork version, so compare the artwork with the photos before buying. 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II has 8 other printings of Droll & Lock Bird: RA02-EN006 Alt Art Collector's Rare (€4.69), RA02-EN006 Collector's Rare (€5.32), RA02-EN006 Platinum Secret Rare (€5.01), RA02-EN006 Quarter Century Secret Rare (€23.01), RA02-EN006 Secret Rare (€2.40) and RA02-EN006 Super Rare (€2.21), and more. Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly.

Investment potential

In its favour: a price well below its August 2025 peak, which some collectors see as room to recover; an active market (25 recent completed sales), so it is easy to sell. Against it: large modern print runs, which tend to cap prices unless a card becomes iconic. Card prices can fall as well as rise, so this is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €2.18 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less. Ask the seller to show the code RA02-EN006 and the Ultra Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Modern foils can be scratched or curled straight from the pack, so check the surface under a light if you plan to grade.
