About Marauding Captain

Marauding Captain is an Effect Monster, printed as LOD-018 in Legacy of Darkness (2003) as an Ultra Rare. It is a Level 3 EARTH Warrior monster with 1,200 ATK and 400 DEF. Legacy of Darkness was a smaller 2003 set with a wave of Spirit monsters, including Yata-Garasu, alongside Injection Fairy Lily and Airknight Parshath. Ungraded, this printing ranks 5th of the 206 Legacy of Darkness cards we track, one of the chase cards of the set. The top card is Yata-Garasu at €78.25.

Character and collecting appeal

Warriors are one of the oldest and largest Types, and have had support in almost every era of the game. In play, it is a card for Special Summoning.

Version and identification

This guide covers the Unlimited printing, without the "1st Edition" text below the artwork. 1st Edition copies of the same card have their own, usually higher, prices. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read LOD-018. The code LOD-018, without a language letter, marks the original North American printing. European English copies have an E in the code, such as LOD-E018, and are priced separately. It is the Ultra Rare version. Ultra Rares have a gold-foil name and holographic artwork. This is a misprint, priced separately from correctly printed copies. Make sure the listing photos show the error. Legacy of Darkness has 2 other printings of Marauding Captain: LOD-018 (€3.57) and LOD-018 1st Edition (€12.51). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly. It was also printed in Quarter Century Bonanza, which we track separately.

Price history

Today an ungraded copy of this printing sells for about €24.53. Our monthly prices for it go back to January 2025. Over the last 12 months ungraded copies are unchanged, and flat in the last month. It is trading at or near its highest recorded value. Of the 5 printings of Marauding Captain we track, this is the most valuable ungraded. The cheapest is Quarter Century Bonanza RA03-EN118 Platinum Secret Rare at €2.54.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the first years of the English game, which are no longer printed; it is the original printing, which reprints rarely replace for collectors. Against it: thin trading, so selling quickly can mean accepting a lower price. Past prices do not guarantee future ones. This is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €24.53 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less. Ask the seller to show the code LOD-018, the missing "1st Edition" text and the Ultra Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Cards from 2003 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
