Character and collecting appeal

Thunder monsters are LIGHT-heavy and include the Thunder Dragon line. Its effect centres on banishing cards, searching the Deck and discarding. It has a Quick Effect, so it can also be used during the opponent's turn. Its text names Thunder Dragon, so collectors often look for them together.

Version and identification

Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read RA03-EN018. RA03-EN018 is the English printing. Other languages use their own letters in place of EN, such as DE or FR, and are priced separately. It is the Ultra Rare version. Ultra Rares have a gold-foil name and holographic artwork. Quarter Century Bonanza has 6 other printings of Thunder Dragondark: RA03-EN018 Collector's Rare (€1.70), RA03-EN018 Platinum Secret Rare (€2.14), RA03-EN018 Quarter Century Secret Rare (€0.20), RA03-EN018 Secret Rare (€1.00), RA03-EN018 Super Rare (€0.13) and RA03-EN018 Ultimate Rare (€0.13). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly.

Grading and population

A PSA 10 sells for 211.8× the ungraded price and 5.1× a PSA 9. That gap is small, so grading fees may outweigh the gain unless the card is for your own collection. Even pack-fresh modern cards can have surface scratches or curling foil, so a 10 is never guaranteed.

Investment potential

In its favour: a price well below its April 2025 peak, which some collectors see as room to recover; an active market (25 recent completed sales), so it is easy to sell. Against it: falling prices, down 89% in a year; large modern print runs, which tend to cap prices unless a card becomes iconic. Card prices can fall as well as rise, so this is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €0.13 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less, and a PSA 9 costs about €5.35. Ask the seller to show the code RA03-EN018 and the Ultra Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Modern foils can be scratched or curled straight from the pack, so check the surface under a light if you plan to grade.
