Solemn Judgment [1st Edition] #MRD-E127

Solemn Judgment [1st Edition] #MRD-E127 collector guide

About Solemn Judgment

Solemn Judgment is a Counter Trap Card, printed as MRD-E127 in Metal Raiders (2002) as an Ultra Rare. Metal Raiders was the second English booster set. It added Summoned Skull, Gate Guardian, Mirror Force and Change of Heart, and many of its cards shaped how the early game was played. Ungraded, this printing ranks 12th of the 508 Metal Raiders cards we track. The top card is Gate Guardian at €301.65.

Character and collecting appeal

Solemn Judgment can stop almost any summon, Spell or Trap at the cost of half your Life Points, and it has been a competitive staple since 2002. Its text is about negating cards and effects and destroying cards.

Version and identification

This guide covers the 1st Edition printing. The words "1st Edition" are printed below the artwork on the left; copies without them are the Unlimited printing and usually sell for less. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read MRD-E127. The E in MRD-E127 marks the European English printing. The North American printing uses a code without the letter, sometimes with a different card number, and has its own prices. It is the Ultra Rare version. Ultra Rares have a gold-foil name and holographic artwork. Metal Raiders has 3 other printings of Solemn Judgment: MRD-127 (€15.73), MRD-127 1st Edition (€67.27) and MRD-E127 (€10.68). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly. It was also printed in 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II, which we track separately.

Price history

Today an ungraded copy of this printing sells for about €79.98, a PSA 9 for €376.19 and a PSA 10 for €3,875. Our monthly prices for it go back to May 2026. Its highest monthly ungraded value was €119.73 in May 2026, 33% above today. Of the 11 printings of Solemn Judgment we track, this is the most valuable ungraded. The cheapest is 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection II RA02-EN075 Ultimate Rare at €1.78. 1st Edition copies sell for about 7.5× the Unlimited printing (€79.98 against €10.68).

Grading and population

A PSA 10 sells for 48.4× the ungraded price and 10.3× a PSA 9. That gap is big enough that grading a sharp, well-centred copy can pay for itself. On cards from the early 2000s, the dark brown backs show every scuff and white edge, so top grades are scarce.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the 1st Edition run of an early English set, which will never be printed again; lasting fame from the anime or the competitive game; it is the original printing, which reprints rarely replace for collectors. Against it: thin trading, so selling quickly can mean accepting a lower price. Treat this as background, not a prediction or financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €79.98 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less, and a PSA 9 costs about €376.19. Ask the seller to show the code MRD-E127, the "1st Edition" text and the Ultra Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. At this price fakes are worth checking for: genuine cards have a small holographic seal (the Eye of Anubis) in the bottom-right corner, and the font, colours and card back should match a copy you know is genuine. Look up the certificate number of any graded copy on the grading company's website. Cards from 2002 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
