Sangan [1st Edition] #MRD-E069

Sangan [1st Edition] #MRD-E069 collector guide

About Sangan

Sangan is an Effect Monster, printed as MRD-E069 in Metal Raiders (2002) as a Rare. It is a Level 3 DARK Fiend monster with 1,000 ATK and 600 DEF. Metal Raiders was the second English booster set. It added Summoned Skull, Gate Guardian, Mirror Force and Change of Heart, and many of its cards shaped how the early game was played. Ungraded, this printing ranks 99th of the 508 Metal Raiders cards we track. The top card is Gate Guardian at €301.65.

Character and collecting appeal

Fiends are one of the largest Types in the game, home to many of its darker and more unusual designs. Its text is about searching the Deck. Its once-per-turn limits are typical of modern card design.

Version and identification

This guide covers the 1st Edition printing. The words "1st Edition" are printed below the artwork on the left; copies without them are the Unlimited printing and usually sell for less. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read MRD-E069. The E in MRD-E069 marks the European English printing. The North American printing uses a code without the letter, sometimes with a different card number, and has its own prices. It is the Rare version. Rares have a silver-foil name and plain artwork. Metal Raiders has 3 other printings of Sangan: MRD-069 (€1.56), MRD-069 1st Edition (€9.76) and MRD-E069 (€2.95). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly. It was also printed in Quarter Century Bonanza, which we track separately.

Price history

Today an ungraded copy of this printing sells for about €4.83, a PSA 9 for €26.01 and a PSA 10 for €292.30. Our monthly prices for it go back to May 2026. Its highest monthly ungraded value was €5.23 in August 2026, 8% above today. Of the 6 printings of Sangan we track, this one ranks 3rd by ungraded value. The most valuable is Quarter Century Bonanza RA03-EN089 Quarter Century Secret Rare at €25.87. 1st Edition copies sell for about 1.6× the Unlimited printing (€4.83 against €2.95).

Grading and population

A PSA 10 sells for 60.5× the ungraded price and 11.2× a PSA 9. That gap is big enough that grading a sharp, well-centred copy can pay for itself. On cards from the early 2000s, the dark brown backs show every scuff and white edge, so top grades are scarce.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the 1st Edition run of an early English set, which will never be printed again; it is the original printing, which reprints rarely replace for collectors. Past prices do not guarantee future ones. This is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €4.83 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less, and a PSA 9 costs about €26.01. Ask the seller to show the code MRD-E069, the "1st Edition" text and the Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Cards from 2002 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
