Heavy Storm [1st Edition] #MRD-E142

Heavy Storm [1st Edition] #MRD-E142 collector guide

About Heavy Storm

Heavy Storm is a Normal Spell Card, printed as MRD-E142 in Metal Raiders (2002) as a Super Rare. Metal Raiders was the second English booster set. It added Summoned Skull, Gate Guardian, Mirror Force and Change of Heart, and many of its cards shaped how the early game was played. Ungraded, this printing ranks 37th of the 508 Metal Raiders cards we track. The top card is Gate Guardian at €301.65.

Character and collecting appeal

Heavy Storm destroys every Spell and Trap on the field and spent years on the Forbidden list. Its text is about clearing the field.

Version and identification

This guide covers the 1st Edition printing. The words "1st Edition" are printed below the artwork on the left; copies without them are the Unlimited printing and usually sell for less. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read MRD-E142. The E in MRD-E142 marks the European English printing. The North American printing uses a code without the letter, sometimes with a different card number, and has its own prices. It is the Super Rare version. Super Rares have holographic artwork and a plain name. Metal Raiders has 3 other printings of Heavy Storm: MRD-142 (€8.75), MRD-142 1st Edition (€72.37) and MRD-E142 (€7.07). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly. It was also printed in Quarter Century Bonanza, which we track separately.

Price history

Today an ungraded copy of this printing sells for about €20.35, a PSA 9 for €101.13 and a PSA 10 for €1,060. Our monthly prices for it go back to May 2026. Its highest monthly ungraded value was €32.46 in July 2026, 37% above today. Of the 6 printings of Heavy Storm we track, this one ranks 3rd by ungraded value. The most valuable is Quarter Century Bonanza RA03-EN092 Quarter Century Secret Rare at €107.10. 1st Edition copies sell for about 2.9× the Unlimited printing (€20.35 against €7.07).

Grading and population

A PSA 10 sells for 52.1× the ungraded price and 10.5× a PSA 9. That gap is big enough that grading a sharp, well-centred copy can pay for itself. Early English Yu-Gi-Oh! cards often have off-centre cuts and wear on the dark brown back borders, which is why high grades are hard to reach.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the 1st Edition run of an early English set, which will never be printed again; lasting fame from the anime or the competitive game; it is the original printing, which reprints rarely replace for collectors. Card prices can fall as well as rise, so this is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €20.35 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less, and a PSA 9 costs about €101.13. Ask the seller to show the code MRD-E142, the "1st Edition" text and the Super Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. At this price fakes are worth checking for: genuine cards have a small holographic seal (the Eye of Anubis) in the bottom-right corner, and the font, colours and card back should match a copy you know is genuine. Look up the certificate number of any graded copy on the grading company's website. Cards from 2002 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
