Slot Machine #MRL-E028 collector guide
About Slot Machine
Slot Machine is a Normal Monster, with flavour text instead of an effect, printed as MRL-E028 in Magic Ruler (2002) as a Super Short Print. It is a Level 7 DARK Machine monster with 2,000 ATK and 2,300 DEF. At its Level it needs two Tributes to Normal Summon. Its ATK is the 8th highest of the 66 monsters in the set. Magic Ruler was the third English booster set and brought Pegasus's Toon cards into the game. Magic Cards were later renamed Spell Cards and the set was reprinted as Spell Ruler, so Magic Ruler copies are the original printing.
Character and collecting appeal
Machines range from early robots to modern archetypes, and the Type has a loyal following. As a Normal Monster it is collected for its artwork and its spot in the set rather than for play.
Version and identification
This guide covers the Unlimited printing, without the "1st Edition" text below the artwork. 1st Edition copies of the same card have their own, usually higher, prices. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read MRL-E028. The E in MRL-E028 marks the European English printing. The North American printing uses a code without the letter, sometimes with a different card number, and has its own prices. It is the Super Short Print version. Super Short Prints look like Commons but were printed in even smaller numbers than Short Prints. Magic Ruler has 3 other printings of Slot Machine: MRL-028 (€1.01), MRL-028 1st Edition (€1.61) and MRL-E028 1st Edition (€3.10). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly.
Price history
There are no recent sales of this printing of Slot Machine yet, so we cannot give it a value.
Investment potential
In its favour: it comes from the first years of the English game, which are no longer printed. Card prices can fall as well as rise, so this is not financial advice.
Before you buy
Ask the seller to show the code MRL-E028, the missing "1st Edition" text and the Super Short Print finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Cards from 2002 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
