Relinquished #MRL-E029 collector guide

History, version, grading and market outlook for this card.

About Relinquished

Relinquished is a Ritual Monster, summoned with its Ritual Spell and Tributes, printed as MRL-E029 in Magic Ruler (2002) as an Ultra Rare. It is a Level 1 DARK Spellcaster monster with 0 ATK and 0 DEF. Magic Ruler was the third English booster set and brought Pegasus's Toon cards into the game. Magic Cards were later renamed Spell Cards and the set was reprinted as Spell Ruler, so Magic Ruler copies are the original printing.

Character and collecting appeal

Relinquished is Pegasus J. Crawford's Ritual Monster in the anime, able to absorb an opponent's monster. Its effect centres on destroying cards and dealing damage. Its text names Black Illusion Ritual, so collectors often look for them together. Black Illusion Ritual mentions Relinquished in its text, which keeps it relevant.

Version and identification

This guide covers the Unlimited printing, without the "1st Edition" text below the artwork. 1st Edition copies of the same card have their own, usually higher, prices. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read MRL-E029. The E in MRL-E029 marks the European English printing. The North American printing uses a code without the letter, sometimes with a different card number, and has its own prices. It is the Ultra Rare version. Ultra Rares have a gold-foil name and holographic artwork. Magic Ruler has 3 other printings of Relinquished: MRL-029 (€5.52), MRL-029 1st Edition (€56.31) and MRL-E029 1st Edition. Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly.

Price history

There are no recent sales of this printing of Relinquished yet, so we cannot give it a value.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the first years of the English game, which are no longer printed; lasting fame from the anime or the competitive game. Treat this as background, not a prediction or financial advice.

Before you buy

Ask the seller to show the code MRL-E029, the missing "1st Edition" text and the Ultra Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Cards from 2002 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
