Man-Eater Bug #LOB-E088

Man-Eater Bug #LOB-E088 collector guide

About Man-Eater Bug

Man-Eater Bug is a Flip Effect Monster, whose effect happens when it is flipped face-up, printed as LOB-E088 in Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon (2002) as a Super Rare. It is a Level 2 EARTH Insect monster with 450 ATK and 600 DEF. Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon was the first booster set of the English Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It brought Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Dark Magician, Red-Eyes Black Dragon and the five pieces of Exodia to English-speaking players, so almost every card in it is a piece of the game's history. Ungraded, this printing ranks 161st of the 454 Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon cards we track. The top card is Blue-Eyes White Dragon at €968.32.

Character and collecting appeal

Man-Eater Bug destroys a monster when flipped and was one of the best Flip Effect monsters of the early game. In play, it is a card for destroying cards.

Version and identification

This guide covers the Unlimited printing, without the "1st Edition" text below the artwork. 1st Edition copies of the same card have their own, usually higher, prices. Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read LOB-E088. The E in LOB-E088 marks the European English printing. The North American printing uses a code without the letter, sometimes with a different card number, and has its own prices. It is the Super Rare version. Super Rares have holographic artwork and a plain name. Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon has 3 other printings of Man-Eater Bug: LOB-108 (€2.68), LOB-108 1st Edition (€53.55) and LOB-E088 1st Edition (€18.74). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly. It was also printed in Starter Deck: Yugi and Quarter Century Bonanza, which we track separately.

Its highest monthly ungraded value was €4.61 in June 2026, 13% above today. Of the 9 printings of Man-Eater Bug we track, this one ranks 4th by ungraded value. The most valuable is Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon LOB-108 1st Edition at €53.55. 1st Edition copies sell for about 4.7× the Unlimited printing (€18.74 against €3.99).

Grading and population

A PSA 10 sells for 58.9× the ungraded price and 11.8× a PSA 9. That gap is big enough that grading a sharp, well-centred copy can pay for itself. Early English Yu-Gi-Oh! cards often have off-centre cuts and wear on the dark brown back borders, which is why high grades are hard to reach.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the first years of the English game, which are no longer printed; lasting fame from the anime or the competitive game; it is the original printing, which reprints rarely replace for collectors; an active market (15 recent completed sales), so it is easy to sell. Card prices can fall as well as rise, so this is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €3.99 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less, and a PSA 9 costs about €19.86. Ask the seller to show the code LOB-E088, the missing "1st Edition" text and the Super Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Cards from 2002 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
