Its ATK is the 5th highest of the 57 monsters in the set. Labyrinth of Nightmare arrived in early 2003 and is best remembered for Torrential Tribute, Magic Cylinder, Gemini Elf and Dark Necrofear. Character and collecting appeal

Dark Necrofear is Yami Bakura's ace monster in the anime. Its effect centres on taking control of an opponent's monster, banishing cards and Special Summoning. It cannot be Normal Summoned, so it has to be brought out by its own conditions.

Version and identification

Check the code printed below the artwork on the right: it should read LON-EN065. The EN in LON-EN065 marks a later English printing, made after Konami moved every English card to EN codes. Copies with the original LON-065 code are a different printing. It is the Ultra Rare version. Ultra Rares have a gold-foil name and holographic artwork. Labyrinth of Nightmare has 4 other printings of Dark Necrofear: LON-065 (€4.98), LON-065 1st Edition (€55.23), LON-E065 (€10.82) and LON-E065 1st Edition (€28.67). Each has its own price, so match the code, edition and rarity exactly.

Investment potential

In its favour: it comes from the first years of the English game, which are no longer printed; lasting fame from the anime or the competitive game. Against it: thin trading, so selling quickly can mean accepting a lower price. Treat this as background, not a prediction or financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €3.93 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less. Ask the seller to show the code LON-EN065 and the Ultra Rare finish clearly in the photos, as listing titles often mix up printings. Cards from 2003 often show white wear on the back edges and corners, so ask for photos of the back before you buy.
