A sealed Darkness Ablaze Booster Box holds 36 sealed booster packs from Darkness Ablaze, the full display a shop would open to sell packs one by one.

About Darkness Ablaze

The set with the first Charizard VMAX, which helped drive the 2020 collecting boom. Released on 14 August 2020, it belongs to the Sword & Shield era, when the collecting boom pushed print runs to record levels. It came out 6 years ago, so most sealed stock has been opened and what is left sits with collectors.

Darkness Ablaze has 189 cards in its main numbering, plus 12 secret rares numbered beyond it.

What collectors open Darkness Ablaze for

The Darkness Ablaze cards collectors most want to pull are Charizard VMAX and Charizard V. With 36 packs, a box gives you the most chances at them of any sealed product, though no box is guaranteed to hold any one card.

Our catalogue lists the set's rarest tiers as 12 Secret Rares, 13 Ultra Rares and 7 VMAX. Prices for every card are on the Darkness Ablaze set page.

Is the Darkness Ablaze Booster Box a good investment?

Older sealed product tends to rise as boxes are opened and supply shrinks, and Darkness Ablaze is now 6 years past release. Its price still depends on demand for its chase cards and on any reprints. Booster boxes are the sealed product most collectors hold long term, as they are easy to store and to value. Watch the price of Charizard VMAX, the set's headline card, since sealed Darkness Ablaze tends to move with it.

None of this is financial advice: sealed prices can fall as well as rise. Our guide should you buy sealed Pokémon products? weighs up both sides.

Before you buy

Look closely at the wrapping in the photos. Factory wrap on booster boxes has neat seams, often with Pokémon logos printed on it; baggy, shiny or uneven wrap is a common sign of a reseal. For a Darkness Ablaze Booster Box at around €419.02, ask the seller for photos of all sides and stick to accounts with plenty of positive feedback. A full box gives better odds than loose packs, and its value as a sealed item is easier to judge (how to value a sealed booster box). Compare the total with delivery, not just the price, and store sealed product flat, out of sunlight and away from damp.
