Character and collecting appeal

Charizard has a recognisable place in Pokémon collecting. When comparing versions, it is worth separating interest in the character from demand for this exact release: the set, card number, artwork and printing can all affect which copy a collector wants.

Version and identification

Look for the printed number #4 and the Japanese Bandai Kids set symbol to confirm you have this exact card, and check the text is Japanese.

Price history

Today an ungraded Charizard #4 sells for about €71.03, a PSA 9 for €216.47. We have monthly prices for this card going back to September 2024. Over the last 12 months ungraded copies are up 94%, and flat in the last month. Its highest monthly ungraded value was €163.73 in March 2026, so it is 57% below that peak.

Investment potential

In its favour: steady demand, with ungraded prices up 94% in a year; a price well below its March 2026 peak, which some collectors see as room to recover; an active market (22 recent completed sales), so it is easy to sell. Past prices do not guarantee future ones. This is not financial advice.

Before you buy

Expect to pay around €71.03 for a clean ungraded copy; played copies sell for less, and a PSA 9 costs about €216.47. Modern cards often leave the pack with print lines or surface scratches, so check the surface under a light (spotting surface scratches). Ask for clear photographs of both sides, verify the exact release and variant, and check for damage that may not appear in the listing title.
