Mega Rayquaza ex 084/103: the headline chase
Mega Rayquaza is the cover Pokémon of Delta Reign and its biggest draw. Its last English Mega card was in the XY era, so for many collectors this is the first new Mega Rayquaza in about ten years. The Japanese set behind Delta Reign is even named after it: Storm Emeralda.
| Card number | 084/103 (DLR EN) |
|---|---|
| Rarity | Double Rare |
| Stage and type | Basic · Colorless · 280 HP |
| Ability: Ruler’s Roar | Once during your turn, when you play it from your hand onto your Bench, look at the top 4 cards of your deck and attach a Basic Energy you find there to it. |
| Attack: Storm Emerald | 50× damage for each Fire and Lightning Energy attached to all of your Pokémon. |
| Weakness / resistance | Lightning ×2 / Fighting −30 · retreat cost 2 |
| Illustrator | takuyoo |
Which version is worth the most? The 084/103 Double Rare is the version you will pull most often, so it should be the cheapest. The Japanese Storm Emeralda set has four Mega Rayquaza ex prints at different rarities, so English illustration or special illustration versions are expected, but Pokémon has not officially revealed them all yet. Until it does, check the card number, rarity symbol and language on every listing, and don’t assume a Japanese version is in the English set.

Other Delta Reign chase cards to watch
The Mega ex are the headline cards, but in most modern sets the highest prices come from the special illustration rares. Delta Reign has 6 special illustration rares, 14 illustration rares and 17 ultra rares, according to Pokémon. These are the ones confirmed so far:
| Aarune · 139 · special illustration rare | A Supporter that searches your deck for up to three Supporter and Stadium cards in any combination. Trainer special illustration rares of popular characters are often among a set’s most valuable cards. |
|---|---|
| Enamorus · 110 · illustration rare | A full-art illustration rare of the Love-Hate Pokémon by Taira Akitsu. |
| Legendary Summit · 096 and 097 | One of the first two-card Legendary Stadiums: you need both halves to play it, and together they make one illustration. When a Colorless Pokémon, such as Mega Rayquaza ex, is Knocked Out by an attack, the attacker takes 1 fewer Prize card. |
| Legendary Pyroduct · 094 and 095 | The other two-card Legendary Stadium, showing Growlithe, Magmar, Steelix and Heatmor. While it is in play, both players’ Evolution Pokémon have no Abilities. |
Legendary Summit096/103 · Stadium (half 1)
Legendary Summit097/103 · Stadium (half 2)
Legendary Stadium pairs are a new collecting challenge: a matching pair is worth more to most collectors than two loose halves, so check that a listing includes both cards. Pokémon has also previewed Heat Rotom ex, Delibird, Hypno, Kecleon and the Supporter Zinnia’s Trust; see our Delta Reign revealed cards guide.
These are cards to watch, not a price ranking. Which cards end up the most valuable depends on pull rates and collector demand after release.
How much will Mega Rayquaza ex and the Delta Reign chase cards cost?
No one knows yet, and anyone quoting a firm price before release is guessing. Prices depend on the version, grade, condition, seller and timing. A listing asking £200 is not proof anyone is paying £200.
- Launch week is usually the most expensive time to buy singles. Supply is lowest and excitement highest, and many singles fall once more packs are opened.
- The Double Rare 084/103 should be far cheaper than any illustration or special illustration rare Mega Rayquaza.
- Compare sold prices, not asking prices. Our guide on estimating a card’s market value shows how.
- Early PSA 10s carry a big premium that often shrinks as more graded copies appear.
For sealed products, the booster box, Elite Trainer Box and bundle, see Delta Reign prices and what is in each product.
Should you open packs or buy Mega Rayquaza ex as a single?
Opening packs is fun, but no number of packs guarantees a particular card. If you only want Mega Rayquaza ex, buying the exact single will almost always cost less than chasing it in packs. If you enjoy opening, want to build the set or want the Kyogre promo from the Elite Trainer Box, sealed product makes more sense. Compare the total delivered price and the pack count, not just the headline price. Read more in booster boxes vs singles.
How to check a Mega Rayquaza ex is genuine
- Match the details: compare the card number (084/103), the DLR set code, the text, the artwork and the foil finish with the official image above.
- Ask for clear photos of the front and back, especially for expensive cards. Our guide to spotting fake Pokémon cards lists the warning signs.
- Graded cards: check the certificate number with our Card Checker and on the grading company’s site. A real number can be copied onto a fake slab, so inspect the slab too.
- Stay on the marketplace checkout and never pay a seller off-platform.
Our verdict
Mega Rayquaza ex is the card everyone will chase in Delta Reign, and its rarer versions are the safest bet to be the most valuable. Mega Golurk ex, Mega Malamar ex and Mega Golisopod ex give collectors three more new Megas, while Aarune and the Legendary Stadium pairs give art collectors something different. Be patient in launch week, buy singles for the cards you really want and compare sold prices before you pay. Buying on Search Cards opens with the set on 6 November.
