Unleashed Booster Box guide

What's inside the Unleashed Booster Box

A sealed Unleashed Booster Box holds 36 sealed booster packs from Unleashed, the full display a shop would open to sell packs one by one.

About Unleashed

A HeartGold SoulSilver set whose LEGEND cards are the Johto legendary beasts. Released on 12 May 2010, it belongs to the EX, Diamond & Pearl and HeartGold SoulSilver years, whose sealed product is now scarce. It came out 16 years ago, so most sealed stock has been opened and what is left sits with collectors.

Unleashed has 95 cards in its main numbering, plus 1 secret rare numbered beyond it.

What collectors open Unleashed for

The Unleashed cards collectors most want to pull are Alph Lithograph. With 36 packs, a box gives you the most chances at them of any sealed product, though no box is guaranteed to hold any one card.

Our catalogue lists the set's rarest tiers as 1 Ultra Rare, 6 LEGENDs and 6 Prime. Prices for every card are on the Unleashed set page.

Bear in mind these are asking prices rather than sold prices: sellers at the top of the range often accept offers or wait a long time to sell.

Price per pack

At the typical price, each of the 36 packs in an Unleashed Booster Box works out at €1,691, compared with €895.24 in an Unleashed Booster Pack. That makes it the most expensive way to buy Unleashed packs right now.

Is the Unleashed Booster Box a good investment?

After 16 years, sealed Unleashed booster boxes rarely come up, and prices tend to rise as boxes are opened and supply shrinks. Booster boxes are the sealed product most collectors hold long term, as they are easy to store and to value. Watch the price of Alph Lithograph, the set's headline card, since sealed Unleashed tends to move with it.

None of this is financial advice: sealed prices can fall as well as rise. Our guide should you buy sealed Pokémon products? weighs up both sides.

Before you buy

Look closely at the wrapping in the photos. Factory wrap on booster boxes has neat seams, often with Pokémon logos printed on it; baggy, shiny or uneven wrap is a common sign of a reseal. For an Unleashed Booster Box at around €60,886, ask the seller for photos of all sides and stick to accounts with plenty of positive feedback. A full box gives better odds than loose packs, and its value as a sealed item is easier to judge (how to value a sealed booster box). For product this old, ask whether it has been checked by an authenticator: fakes and resealed vintage boxes are made to fool buyers. Compare the total with delivery, not just the price, and store sealed product flat, out of sunlight and away from damp.
