Neo Discovery Booster Box guide

What's inside the Neo Discovery Booster Box

A sealed Neo Discovery Booster Box holds 36 sealed booster packs from Neo Discovery, the full display a shop would open to sell packs one by one.

1st Edition and Unlimited booster boxes are both listed here, and 1st Edition sells for far more, so check the listing title before comparing prices.

About Neo Discovery

A small Johto set best known for the first Espeon and Umbreon cards and for the Unown. Released on 1 June 2001, it belongs to the Wizards of the Coast era, when Pokémon cards first took off and print runs were far smaller than today. It came out 25 years ago, so most sealed stock has been opened and what is left sits with collectors.

Neo Discovery has 75 cards in its main numbering.

Chase cards to look for

The Neo Discovery cards collectors most want to pull are Espeon, Umbreon and Tyranitar. With 36 packs, a box gives you the most chances at them of any sealed product, though no box is guaranteed to hold any one card.

Our catalogue lists the set's rarest tiers as 36 Rares. Prices for every card are on the Neo Discovery set page.

Is the Neo Discovery Booster Box a good investment?

Sealed Neo Discovery is now a collector's item: very few unopened booster boxes survive, and each one opened makes the rest rarer. Condition and authenticity matter more than anything else at this age. Booster boxes are the sealed product most collectors hold long term, as they are easy to store and to value. Watch the price of Espeon, the set's headline card, since sealed Neo Discovery tends to move with it.

None of this is financial advice: sealed prices can fall as well as rise. Our guide should you buy sealed Pokémon products? weighs up both sides.

Before you buy

Look closely at the wrapping in the photos. Factory wrap on booster boxes has neat seams, often with Pokémon logos printed on it; baggy, shiny or uneven wrap is a common sign of a reseal. For a Neo Discovery Booster Box at around €128,469, ask the seller for photos of all sides and stick to accounts with plenty of positive feedback. A full box gives better odds than loose packs, and its value as a sealed item is easier to judge (how to value a sealed booster box). For product this old, ask whether it has been checked by an authenticator: fakes and resealed vintage boxes are made to fool buyers. Compare the total with delivery, not just the price, and store sealed product flat, out of sunlight and away from damp.
